Look in your local phone book for the DoC office nearest you. DoC staff will often come to
your school upon request - a great way for your kids to get a first hand account of the
work that is being carried out around NZ to save our natural heritage.
You and your students can write to the Minister of Conservation at Parliament Buildings,
Wellington (post paid). If your class does write to the minister, please inform Forest and
Bird so we can be aware of how active schools are. |

The NZAEE is a networking
organisation, which hopes to raise awareness of environmental education, what it is and
how individuals and groups can become involved. They produce a national newsletter and the
four branches, Auckland, Waikato, Wellington and Christchurch, also produce newsletters.
The newsletters contain useful information about resources available to educators and
environmental education initiatives. |

City, District and
Regional Councils are great sources of information. Some councils have produced a wide
range of material which is well suited for using in the classroom. If your local councils
have not produced much environmental information contact councils outside your area, many
of the resources produced are useful both locally and nationally. Some Councils also run class programmes that can take place
outside the school or in the classroom. Check the regional councils websites in their
education/school sections, or call your regional council.
